Bavarian!

Beautiful traditional Bavarian hotel in a picturesque village. Great room, but without air conditioning or fan, and a mini fridge would have been a plus. Fortunately, there is a supermarket right next door with cool drinks. Excellent food in the restaurant, and breakfast was also fine, although something sweet would have been welcome and fewer flies would have been desirable. The garden with swimming pool behind the hotel for relaxation was wonderful but could use some loving maintenance. Nevertheless, we had a wonderful stay.

Nice hotel for a short stay

Mind you, Tuesday is a rest day, therefor no diner served here. We had a great room. Nice beds. The fridge wasn't working so we could keep our stuff cold in their's. Also we could give our cold packs so they could put them in the freezer. Great hotel if you are travelling to Croatia. The breakfast was 5 stars. The pool was not inviting but they were cleaning it on the morning we left. We played pingpong outside and had lots of fun.

Not up to expectation

We checked in on a Monday and had dinner- local fresh trout from the grill.
It took one hour for the first of 4 plates to arrive and another 20 minutes for the remaining 3.
Service not too friendly.
Elevator out of order.
No fridge in the room- not even ice on the floor.
Dirty bathrooms and especially the ventilation- see picture.
Breakfast buffet ok, but lots of flies all three days we were there...
Not enough parking available for hotel guests.
Nobody at front desk and no number to call from the room.
There are better options in the region.

A true Bavarian treat

We stayed in this hotel in the Törwang village in Samerberg as we were attending a wedding nearby. We arrived past nine as we had a long day of driving, and were so surprised to see the place bustling with diners and live Bavarian music. As soon as we checked into our room with a balcony (overlooking their pool and a green wide pasture), we hurried down for a late dinner. The food was good and the two-man band livening up the outdoor seating area was a real Bavarian delight. They played till past 11:00, and guests were still arriving at 11:00; possibly because it was a Friday night. Breakfast was good. Service very friendly. We left understanding why people rave about Bavarian hospitality.

We'll keep coming back

Ended up staying here twice in a week (long and sorry story involving a broken down bike).
Could be saying that staying here was some compensation for the problems we had. However, that wouldn't do the place justice. The Zur Post has something that is very difficult to define. There's nothing in the village, the rooms are ok, but not fantastic, the staff are great (but they tend to be everywhere in Germany) and the food is good (ditto previous comment on Germany). However, this place is probably the one hotel we will continue to visit anytime we have a chance.
There is a genuine feeling of being welcomed here. Not just by the staff, but by any of the locals who happen to be around. On this visit we tested the owner by the bike finally doing a permanent breakdown in his garage (specially provided for touring motorbikes). We should have known that he would be fully up to the challenge. He arranged a breakdown truck to collect the bike the next day and liaised with the nearest Honda dealer to ensure a mechanic was available to deal with the problem. he also sorted a hire car so we could continue our planned trip to Bodensee. We then returned for another night once the bike was repaired.
For the first time with this trip our first night at the Zur Post was a Tuesday (we normally end up here at a weekend). Beware! The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays!!! Not a big problem as there is another place in the village (see separate review), but a bit of a shock when we had been looking forward to a meal at the Post all day, or to be honest, for several days before.
However, the problem with the bike meant we returned later in the week and had the usual high quality food on offer.
Not sure when we'll be back, but already looking forward to it. Thank you to everyone there for another great stay (s)
