History in Harmony with Today
We actually booked this as a halfway point in our trip, with sightseeing and pottery hunting foremost in our minds. When we saw all that the Castello had to offer, we were sorry we couldn't spend more time just relaxing and enjoying the property.
The hotel's foundations lie with a Knight Templar in the 13th century, but the grounds themselves were inhabited as early as the 3rd century b.c. Fortunately for guests, the Castello offers the comforts of the 21st century, elevator, air conditioning and Wifi among them.
Touches of history are found throughout the property, including several quiet places to sit and relax. The pool and hot tubs looked inviting, the interior courtyard just lovely, the library that was only rediscovered when renovations took down a wall, or you could take the elevator to the battlements and enjoy the breathtaking vista from that perch.
The rooms were inviting, with comfy beds and beautiful bathrooms. The staff was welcoming and accommodating. We loved the breakfast and the restaurant for dinner. All in all, a beautiful place to soak up the Umbrian countryside.
