It’s a “wow” factor
Wow. As a Diamond member, loved the perks this hotel offered (spa, gym, upgrade, breakfast, and more). Our room view was amazing, it’s 10/10 worth the castle view. The rooms are European sized, so all you US folks don’t be surprised, it’s efficient and cozy. If you’re in your room a lot, why did you travel all the way to EDI?
The Court for lunch is 100/10, the staff, the food, the piano is worth the stop.
We were so pleased by our visit. Can’t wait to come back.

Good location- not a Waldorf- bland
The positives are great location and grand look from the outside. Rooms are also large and ours had been modernized. Sad part was that there was not a hint of Scotland or Edinburgh. We were in room 462 with a view away from the castle so a view of the forth. Not one picture in the room- just bland.
The negatives, two elevators that are also used during the day by the maids to move trolleys and since they are small just one trolley means waiting for the next
Worse though was the breakfast. A nice view if you can secure a table by the window. Cool looking room but carpet and poor tables made it less than appealing. Food at the buffet was plentiful for hot items. No fruit other than an apple. Ordered a fruit platter that had obviously been in the fridge for the night or more. Watermelon was white and the grapes shriveled. Mentioned to the waiter and all he said they would make sure to make me a fresh one TOMORROW!
Service is haphazard w no manager in place - staff just running around and never remembering requests. Asked twice for Tabasco and only on the third time did the waiter bring by which time we had nearly finished. Same w coffee- do not expect anyone to ask if you need more even if your cup is empty and they are taking away plates from the first course. They badly need extra staff but also someone to organize the chaos.
There is a piano on the fourth floor corridor plus some dressers that I assume were moved in the modernization but just seem oddly left either together or just randomly. No flowers just weird. The piano is coated in dust.
Bathrooms have been updated but it’s a shower inside the tub. A good 2-3ft height from the floor so not for anyone w even mild disability and nowhere to hold on as you leave. Fine for me as I am able bodied but my mother woujd not be able to use. Most disappointing is the toiletries- shower gel was empty on first use. All of the different bottles have pumps that need to be pulled up to get more liquid or lotion out. Scent is very mild on gel and generic at best on the lotion. Arran seems like a supermarket brand.
Staff are friendly. Reception late evening when we arrived was efficient and the young man was welcoming. Room service was fast but expect five star pricing- 46 pounds for a burger and side w no drink including the delivery and service charge.
I would stay at the intercontinental next time - better location if you want to be central and much better breakfast cooked to order. Understand why this is no longer a Waldorf Astoria. Hotel is too old and really needs staff trained to be of that standard. Intercontinental has much more polish.

Perfect
After being placed in a newly refurbished room, which met all the booking requirements and was very elegant, the smell of fresh paint was still quite strong. After directing concerns to the night concierge team Shaleigh and Danny, they very promptly found us a solution and even went through the personal touch of making sure the new room was perfect before offering it up as an alternative. Saved a lady, who is very uncomfortable complaining with a friendly smile and resolution. Would highly recommend even purely if only for mthe customer service you get 24 hours. An awkward situation resolved without an awkward interaction. We will be back.

Another fantastic stay at this delightful hotel
This was our 2nd time staying at this lovely hotel and again it did not disappoint. We had a great surprise at check in when we were told we had a complimentary upgrade. Our room was extremely well appointed and I loved trying out the dyson hairdryer. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the lounge and listening to the live music and enjoying some delicious cocktails and fine wine. The breakfast was superb with a great variety to choose from and of good quality. We cannot wait to return to this friendly luxurious hotel

Great experience having drinks at the Caledonian! such lovely and helpful staff and the most delish and unique cocktails!! Would definitely recommend going for a drink there :) The atmosphere is so lovely and the bar area has a beautiful piano which is played on certain days of the week. Altogether a 10/10 experience!
